It has been a very long weekend in our house! This past Friday I got the flu but since it was still early in the game I wasn’t presenting any symptoms besides a sore throat so I got a shot and a z-pack… Friday night around 3 am when our apartments fire alarm (this has never happen in the 3 years we have lived here nor have I been sick in this apartment but when it rains it pours) went off and we had to go stand outside for an hour did it hit me… que the fever, chills, aches, etc! Dang I had forgotten how terrible it feels to get sick!! I am usually ‘known’ (to my husband at least) for my stellar immune system and I can’t remember the last time I have ran a fever, even last year when my husband got the flu I still continued to take care of him and even kiss him goodnight just because I knew there was no way I was going to get it…. Flash forward to this year…. And we have switched rolls!! Luckily I started Tamiflu mid-Saturday and by Sunday I was up disinfecting our house, doing laundry and some light blogging with no signs of a fever. I know I probably should be ‘in bed resting’ but that just isn’t my style! When I woke up yesterday morning feeling half way normal I found the pile of dishes that my ‘doctor’ had forgotten about and was weirdly thankful that I had a task to do! On Saturday my fever got high enough that I actually started to vomit (sorry for the TMI!! I just never knew that this could actually happen!!) my body was craving a real punch of nutrients … my husband keep insisting on me drinking a Gatorade but honestly I haven’t drank a sweetened beverage like that in so long after taking my first sip I thought I was going to vomit again…. Why would I feed my body more SUGAR when all I really needed was proper nutrition?!!? I knew I had some pre-sliced frozen bananas & 2 Acai berry packets in the freezer (prep skills for the win) but our almond milk was expired and so was our other fruit since I haven’t been able to get the shopping done before I got sick so I sent him to the grocery with a list of fruits, almond milk and puppy food/treats because after all me being sick was very traumatic for my pups :)  Once the ingredients got home I ‘helped’ Ryan (more like barked the recipe from the couch- little did he know he was helping me develop a recipe for today’s post- I am always thinking about the blog lol) on how to make a smoothie and these guys where my go-to meal the whole day, which is very strange to not have an appetite usually all I can think about is food! Now that’s enough chitchat about my terrible weekend and on to that amazing smoothie recipe!!!  

Acai Berry & Strawberry Smoothie
Serves 1
Prep Time: 5 min 
Cook Time: 5 min 
  • 1 Acai berry puree, frozen packet
  • 1 small banana, frozen
  • 1 cup strawberries, frozen
  • 3/4 cup of unsweetened almond milk
  1. Add all ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth!!
  1. If the smoothie is too thick you can add another 1/4 cup of almond milk or even a splash of water!
