Larabars: My New Love Affair January 19 2015, 3 Comments

I know I said that I will never eat another protein bar besides Epic bars but technically this bar isn’t for protein. Larabars have been around for a while now but I always dismissed them as ‘another bar’ on the market, until I was reading a vegan blog and saw that she was eating Larabars…. Usually bars are made with so many chemicals, preservatives, manufactured protein powders and some sort of ‘dairy’ binder to keep the thing together, how can this be?! So off I went to the grocery store for some ‘research’ and here is what I found out…

Larabar (chocolate chip cookie dough flavor):

Gluten free

Dairy free

Non-GMO product

Fair Trade Certified

Ingredients: cashews, dates, semisweet chocolate and sea salt.... that’s it!

Nutrition Facts: Serving Size 1 bar: Calories: 210, Total fat 11g (duh it has cashews as the main ingredient so these are healthy fats!!), Sodium 55mg, Total carbohydrates 28 grams (about two carbohydrate servings for a diabetic – perfect for a snack), Fiber 3 grams, Protein 4 grams.

Overall, Larabars get my stamp of approval! You all know by know that I prefer you eat REAL food for snacks/meals and stay away from powders, bars and artificial ingredients but Larabars are vegan, fair trade certified and even a few flavors are paleo friendly! I think Larabars are a great option when you are in a pinch, traveling or for children who tend to be picky eaters! IMG_9422  Have you tried the Larabar brand? If so what is your favorite flavor?  Love, Marla
