Mini Guide To Healthy Grilling! June 01 2015, 2 Comments

My family likes loves to grill out! It isn’t usually anything we plan but just what happens! My husband and brother-in-law love grilling and so when us girls don’t feel like cooking they offer to grill (yes, please!) and then we manage the sides! Easy, quick and fun! This is why I love my family and this is also why I love being a Texas girl, you cannot walk outside during the summer without smelling someone grilling! Typically grilling includes heavy sauces, fatty cuts of meat and potatoes/beans/macaroni as sides but that just wouldn’t work for us! Here is my little guide on how to keep grilling healthy!
  1. Don’t use sauces! So many sauces are loaded with hidden sugar and calories, so go for the dry rubs! Grilling adds so much flavor that you really don’t need much but we have been loving the seasonings I picked up from the rodeo that you can purchase here or use good ole pepper with a little bit of salt and call it a day!
  2. Pick a leaner cut of meat! We will get a little bit of pork, chicken and steak so we can accommodate everyone’s preferences but this is easy to do if you purchase from the meat butchers at the grocery store and get the exact amount you will be eating! I prefer chicken, pork loin and sirloin steaks, anything that has the word loin is usually a lean cut of meat!
  3. Make healthy sides! We like to grill our corn on the grill or bake them in foil with just a hint of butter, salt and pepper- DONE! I usually always prepare the salad and just throw whatever vegetables are in the fridge in the bowl- easy and healthy!
  4. Have a team! With Ryan and BJ on the meats, my sister on the corn and myself on the salad, dinner comes together in no time with very little effort! The more people the better!
